Everyone is familiar with the expression “content is king.” Without rich content, you will find it difficult to achieve good rankings with specific keywords and to direct traffic to your website. Your bounce rate is determined by the amount of people that click on the link to your website in the search engine result pages (SERPs) and consequently click back again to Google. A high bounce rate indicates that people did not find what they were looking for on your website. There’s a difference between desktop SEO and mobile SEO, but the goals are often comparable. You want to reach your audience and turn them into customers. In some ways, desktop SEO tactics also work for mobile SEO, but in a slightly different form. SEO is a set of practices and techniques to optimize a website to get it to the top of the search result listing for specific keywords or terms.

Utilize testimonials from customers

Web pages containing matching verbiage will have lower visibility in searches. Seriously, what is worse than staring at a blank page waiting for it to load? The page speed is a huge ranking factor when it comes to search engines. Google’s latest update had a heavy focus on the user experience and site speed can undoubtedly affect this. This means that search engines look at page speed and provide ranking advantages to faster matches. Common sense, right? The user’s keywords are typically shown in boldface when they appear in the search results (sometimes close synonyms are shown in boldface as well). A backlink from a more important page that is high in popularity itself will count more toward a higher ranking for your website.

SEO is about marketing

Having keywords in your domain URL can also give you a small SEO boost. Use internal links with clear and informative anchor text. Either a piece of content can help your website’s search engine rankings or it can hurt your rankings. Crafting quality titles for product pages, articles, blog posts, lists and all other written content is what gets that content noticed by search engines. It might not make sense at first, but long and ugly titles containing lots of descriptive information are actually the best types of titles around.

Set a bare minimum expectation for what SEO can achieve

Check the readability score of your content with the Flesch reading ease test, and aim to get above 60% Each listing on the SERP has three core components, which include the page title, page description, and page URL. Make sure you pick a permalink structure that fits your goals. If you have a news site, it might make sense to add the publication date of the article to the URL. According to Gaz Hall, a UK SEO Consultant : "If you sign up to become a member for a site, you'll get a link in your profile. Well, not every site. Some sites will allow quality links in your profile, while others won't. Some are in the middle, such as Twitter, which gives nofollow links (links that don't pass link juice)."

The title tag gets a lot of weight in Google

For some businesses a point in the right direction is all that is needed, for others that have had an audit carried out they may just need keeping on-track. Dependant on your requirements this can range from analysis of your site and advice given over the telephone to a visit to your premises and coaching given directly to your in-house team. Most people look at SEO the wrong way. They look at ways to do the least amount of work for the greatest initial return, when in fact, it's quite the opposite. The well-publicised Panda and Penguin updates have had a significant (and in my view, positive) impact on the discipline of SEO. Backlinks from older websites may be worth more than links from newer sites.
